Kissimme Sex Offender Found in Colorado Springs

A Kissimmee man suspected of committing Sexual Battery on a Juvenile has been located in an apartment complex in Colorado Springs. Springs Police were contacted by Florida officers on Friday afternoon, who told them a wanted man who hadn’t been seen since 2004 was hiding out in Colorado Springs.

Kissimmee police said 39-year-old Jon Register had overdosed on pills a few days before he was set to go to court for the battery charge. When he was released from the hospital, he told his parents he was going to commit suicide and then walked into the woods. He was not seen or heard from again.

Then, just recently, Kissimmee Police got a tip that Register was in Colorado Springs. Register was found and arrested at 435 W. Van Buren St. Apartment #B without incident on Friday. It is not known when he will face trial.

Zero Tolerance Operation: Poinciana, Buenaventura Lakes and West 192

Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies successfully conducted Operation Zero Tolerance which resulted in 163 arrests and 353 citations issued. In addition, deputies confiscated three guns. The three-day operation began July 17, 2008. Deputies from all areas of the agency including criminal investigations, community response, tourist policing, K-9, narcotics enforcement, agriculture/marine, motors, aggressive driving, gang, school resource, DUI traffic, robbery, patrol and reserves worked all areas of the operation in Buenaventura Lakes, Poinciana and West 192 from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. In addition, other local agencies including the Osceola County Corrections Department and Juvenile Probation assisted.

Based on the Sheriff’s Office community-oriented policing mission, the goal was to reduce crime in these areas, while gathering valuable intelligence for detectives who will use this information to work existing and future cases.

This was the eighth time the Sheriff’s Office conducted such a large-scale operation involving almost all aspects of the Sheriff’s Office. The first took place in January, 2006, the second in June of 2006, the third in November 2006, the fourth in August 2007, the fifth in October 2007 and the sixth in January of this year, the seventh in April of this year. The result of all seven operations has been 660 arrests and 1,861 citations issued.

Man Beaten to Death in Kissimmee

Gary Stroup, 54, of Campbell City was punched in the head and face about a week ago by Angelo Nieves, 43, of Buenaventura Lake after Nieves found him at his ex-girlfriend’s Kissimmee home, investigators said. Stroup died Friday from his injuries.

Nieves was arrested on the same day and held in the Osceola County Jail without bail on suspicion of murder, aggravated battery, burglary and domestic violence.

Another Pedestrian Killed in Kissimmee

An unidentified man was struck and killed by a vehicle in Kissimmee on U.S. Route 192 near Orange Boulevard on Tuesday morning. Officials had to close the roadway from Orange to Dyer boulevards temporarily, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. No other details have been released.

Two Arrested for Burglary in Kissimmee

Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Esteban Rodriguez and Michael Lopez-Ortiz for burglary on Monday.

Around 2 a.m., deputies responded to a burglary in progress call from 2619 Chatham Circle in Kissimmee. When they arrived, deputies spoke with the victim who said he was asleep when he heard a noise outside his bedroom window. He told the deputies he saw two suspects attempting to remove a screen from the window. When the suspects realized the homeowner was awake, they fled the area. Deputies searched the neighborhood and found two suspects matching the description given by the victim.
Lopez-Ortiz and Rodriguez were taken into custody and charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools. They were booked into the Osceola County Jail on $6,000 bond.
